Spirit of Thunderheart is from the four directions of the Hudson Valley NY. Lead Drummer, Singer, and Producer Donna Coane started the all women's drum group in late 2011. Joining Donna Coane was Brenda Martin-Buffa, Debbie Fichtner, Former Wynona Decker, and Mary Griffin. The mission is to share the Prayers of the Drum, with Song and Dance. Their music is sung in Different Native American Languages including some English and mostly Mohawk, Cheyenne, Cherokee, Dn'a, and Oneida. We mostly wear what we call our group trademark fringed jackets or our NAMA tee shirt when we perform unless we have a more ceremonial kind of special performance. We only wear our regalia for special occasions and sacred celebrations.
We come together to educate the importance of caring for each other, with a good mind and strong cultural values. Through Story Telling we teach the understanding of our oral and symbolic corrective history. Spirit of Thunderheart believes in teaching the importance of respecting, and caring for our environment. The group started off performing by traveling to venues and events in New York City and the Tri-State area. The group records with Spirit Winds Records and its CEO Donald Blackfox. Spirit of Thunderheart has eleven Silver Arrow Awards for Outstanding Contributions to the Native American Music Industry, two Native American Music Awards Cd Rising in 2014, Cd Tradition in 2019, and nominated Unity in 2016.
